This should be done every 6 months (put the date of install on the filter in sharpie). New filter, wrench & Teflon tape ("plumbers tape") will be required. The new filters have some loose carbon particulate in them when they are new, this MUST be flushed prior to operation or else the particulate will clog the sediment filter. - Shut off the water supply (plastic valve under the sink leading directly to pre-prefilter)
- Disconnect the filter from the water supply (press down on the collar of the 'shark-bite' connectors to release the tube)
- There will be some residual water that will come out, use a bucket/tub to contain
- Remove the shark-bite connectors from the old filter (probably will need wrench/pliers)
- Remove the residual Teflon tape from the connectors
- Apply new Teflon tape to connectors
- Install connectors on new filter (probably will need wrench/pliers)
- Use a sharpie to write the current date on the filter
- The new filter MUST be flushed before use
- Observe the flow direction indicator on the new filter
- Connect the water inlet to the new filter
- Locate the drain line for the membrane filter (follow the tube from the sink drain back to the water cooler
- DISCONNECT the drain line from the membrane filter (capture residual water)
- Connect the drain line to the outlet of the pre-prefilter
- Turn on the water supply (plastic valve under the sink leading directly to pre-prefilter)
- Let run for 4-5 minutes, this will flush the loose carbon from the filter
- Shut off the water supply (plastic valve under the sink leading directly to pre-prefilter)
- Disconnect the drain line from the outlet of the pre-prefilter
- Reconnect the drain line to the membrane filter
- Connect the pre-prefilter outlet to the input line for the water cooler
- Turn on the water supply (plastic valve under the sink leading directly to pre-prefilter)
- 'Go easy on it' for 30-60 minutes until the water reservoir has a chance to refill
