Recovering items from Outlook:
The below screenshots are from Outlook for Office 365, downloaded from https://portal.office.com/account/ and clicking the "Install Office" button. You may see something slightly different, depending on the version of Outlook that is installed on your computer.
Step 1: Clicking on the "Deleted Items" folder within your mailbox, you will see a link for "Recover items recently removed from this folder". Clicking that link will bring up ALL items removed from your mailbox, regardless of what folder the item came from.
Step 2: Once you click the link, you'll see a new window will all the items removed from your mailbox within the last 14 days. You can sort by any of the five available columns to help you find the item in question. You can hold down "CTRL" and select multiple items, you click CTRL+A to select all items. After selecting the item you're wanting to restore and verifying the "Restore Selected Items" button is chosen, click OK.
NOTE: If you have "Purge Selected Items" selected and click "OK", you will no longer have the option to recover it. The item WILL be available for 14 days for any Freedom of Information Act or legal mailbox requests though.
The restored item will be placed in your DELETED ITEMS folder, not the original folder that it was deleted from. Assuming you have your Deleted Items folder sorted by "Received", you will find the item from when it was originally delivered to your mailbox. If the item was delivered to you back in May 2014, you'll need to scroll back to that time frame in your Deleted Items folder to find the item you just restored.
