How do I connect to my career account home directory from a chromebook?

NOTE:  If you are off campus, you will need to connect to the Purdue VPN, before connecting to your home directory. Please refer to How do I connect to Purdue VPN for chromebooks?

NOTE:  BoilerKey is required when authenticating to Purdue's VPN services.

  1. Open the "Files" app on your Chromebook
  2. With Files open, click on the 3-dot menu on the top-right corner to open your settings window.
  3. Then down to “Add new service” and click “SMB file share”.

  4. An "Add File Share" Dialog box will open
  5. In the "File share URL" field, enter the smb drive path for your Purdue Home Drive,
    smb://nas01.itap.purdue.edu/puhome
  6. In the "Display Name" field, this will be how your home directory displays on your machine. Name it something recognizable like "Purdue Home Drive"
  7. Input your credentials for the "Username" & "Password" fields
    1. For the username, you will need to precede your username with boilerad\ (boilerad\yourusername)
    2. For the password, use your Career Account password (not your Boilerkey passphrase)




Check the Remember sign-in info



  1. After that, click on the “Add” button and voila, the Windows shared folder will be live on your Chromebook with all the files within. You can access it from the left panejust like any other folder on your Windows PC.



For the File share url, type in smb://nas01.itap.purdue.edu/puhome

For the Username, type in boilerad\username (username is replaced by your own purdue username)

For the Password, type in your career account password (not boilerkey)

Check the Remember sign-in info

SMB file share button should be available to all chromebook users by default. Some chromebook users may have access to Network File Share for Chrome OS, which is found in the same location as SMB file share. If user has access to that option, user can use that instead of SMB file share if they want and connect to the following paths:

\\myhome.itap.purdue.edu\myhome\username

\\nas01.itap.purdue.edu\puhome
