There may be times when remote monitoring of the IOC becomes necessary/preferable. Much of the following information is specific to the current COVID-19 pandemic and response, but is broadly applicable to other situations that might necessitate remote monitoring. This information will continue to be updated as the current situation evolves, and future needs present themselves.

  • Stable, high speed internet connection
  • A Plantronics or other USB-headset with microphone
  • A Jabber client*
  • Remote desktop access to an IOC machine
  • Ability to connect to the/a Purdue VPN - (https://support.purdue.edu/goldanswers/168490)
  • A home or Purdue-issued computer capable of remoting into an IOC machine

Remoting Into IOC Machine - IOC Machine Names

(COVID-19 specific)

Each shift (1-3) has a designated remote machine. Please remote into the machine assigned to your shift. 


Shift 1 = CSDS-07664 (IOC)

  1.  Connect to webvpn.purdue.edu or webvpn2.purdue.edu via Cisco AnyConnect
  2. Open Remote Desktop Connection from your home computer (personal or University-issued)
  3. Enter your shift's assigned remote machine (i.e. for first shift, CSDS-07664) in the computer drop-down box
  4. Your User name should display BOILERAD\(whatever your username is)
    1. If it does not, click "show options"
    2. Change the Domain and username as necessary
  5. Hit connect
  6. A login window will appear
  7. Enter your career account password, and click "ok".
  8. When the remote desktop loads, remember to open all of the necessary IOC tools:

      2. Grafana

        2. Services Update Tool
        3. Message Updater Tool

After your shift:

  • Please be sure to restart the remote machine when your shift ends. Only disconnecting leaves an active profile on the machine, and makes it difficult for the next person to connect/login properly.
  • Be aware that if your off-site machine goes to sleep, it may drop the VPN connection. Please make sure your machine has its sleep setting disabled or appropriately delayed during your shift.
