90 Day Probationary Policy

90 Day Probationary Policy

To recognize the individuality of its employees, and to afford flexibility in meeting the needs of employees and the Purdue IT Service Desk alike, a 90-day probationary policy for newly hired employees is described below:

The first ninety (90) days of employment with the Purdue IT Service Desk (ITSD) will be conducted as a probationary and conditional period of employment. During this period, the ITSD will determine whether the employee can satisfactorily perform the requirements of the job for which they have been hired. No later than ten (10) working-days prior to the conclusion of this probationary period, the employee’s supervisor (or their designee) will assess the employee’s performance in the form of a standard performance review.

If it is determined during this probationary period that the employee’s performance does not meet the standards of their position, the employee will be notified in writing of one of the following:

  1. The probationary period will be extended;
    1. The extended probationary period will not exceed 45 calendar days. At the end of the extended period, the employee’s supervisor (or their designee) will make the determination to retain or terminate employment.
    2. Only one (1) extension period will be granted

      or

  1. Employee performance has not been satisfactory, and employment will be terminated on a specified date.

Satisfactory completion of the probationary period neither indicates, nor is evidence of, technical proficiency in an employee's work duties and responsibilities.
