Brightspace Training Details

Birck Nanotechnology Center Training

Use of Birck facilities requires training specific to the level of use, which can vary from occupying a desk to using a high powered laser in the Scifres Nanofabrication Laboratory. Each training courses is managed in the Brightspace LMS.  Each course includes viewing content, completing quizzes, and other tasks that must be completed before the completion badge is granted. Courses may also have prerequisites. When you've completed all challenges associated with a particular badge, and have obtained all prerequisite badges (if any), you'll be awarded the badge.

Challenges fall into four categories:

  1. Task and E-Signature: Complete a task described in the challenge instructions, such as studying a Powerpoint presentation, reviewing a BNCWiki page, or completing a Purdue training module.
  2. Comprehension Check: After completing a task, take a quiz on the material presented. These are typically multiple choice, where an 80% or better must be obtained to verify your comprehension. The material being tested on can be referred to during the quiz. These challenges may be retaken once, if needed. If you fail to obtain an 80% after the second attempt, your submission must be manually reset. You'll need to email the material Subject Matter Expert (specified in the instructions to each of these challenges) to setup a meeting to discuss any points of confusion and reset your submission. These types of challenges are approved automatically once completed, and you'll receive an automated submission approval email from Brightspace immediately after completion.
  3. Task and Upload: Complete a task described in the challenge instructions, such as filling out a form or obtaining a certificate. These types of challenges require a manual approval of your submission by a Subject Matter Expert particular to the badge. If your submission is approved by the Subject Matter Expert, you'll receive an automated challenge completion email from Brightspace, along with any comments from the Subject Matter Expert. If your submission requires changes, your submission will be denied pending reapproval, and you'll be able to review your submission to see the Subject Matter Expert's explanation of the changes that need to be made. Typically, you may resubmit as many times as is necessary to gain approval. If you are unable to complete the Task satisfactorily for whatever reason, your submission will be denied without reapproval. A submission in this state will need to be discussed in person with the Subject Matter Expert to reset your submission.
  4. Open Text and In-Person: Submit information as requested in the challenge instructions. Press the "Begin this Challenge" button to gain access to an Open Text submission field, as well as additional instructions. Fill out the Open Text submission as appropriate, submit, and setup and In-Person meeting as described in the additional instructions (only visible once you've begun the challenge). After successfully completing the In-Person meeting, your submission will be approved by a Subject Matter Expert particular to the badge, and you'll receive an automated email from Brightspace after approval.
